While we wish all doulas could attend, Milwaukee is the area with the most intense focus from policy makers and funders. Decisions made here will likely affect other places. So it makes sense for this to be our first gathering place.
Amy Gilliland and Kay'La Mumford were the main planners. Kay'La is the founder of Birth Embrace Communities, a local non-profit, offering community based trainings and support. Amy has Doulaing The Doula, a training and certifying organization.
People talked, we took notes. Then we talked about the four main themes. Here is the URL to the Google Doc of notes.

WE discovered Okkanti, a doula support organization based here in Wisconsin - and thank them for our lunch and snacks!
We thank Alimus for their support!
We appreciate the recognition from the Celebrate Life Foundation and in kind donations from Costco, Inc.
These events grew out conversations that we want to know who the other doulas are; what they consider to be priorities and concerns; and how we might all contribute to a shared vision for doula support in Wisconsin.
Do you use the word "doula" to describe yourself to others?
Is "doula" one of the ways you perceive your own identity?
Are you a caregiver during intimate life transitions?
If so, you belong in the room. Our goal is to include, not exclude, people who "do the work" - no matter what the context.
Right now our events offer each individual a few minutes to share their concerns and be heard by the group. Scribes will take notes and we will meet to discuss the common themes from the individual sharing.
Collectively, we have the power to influence legislation; to shape policy about our working conditions and reimbursement rates; to create programs that work. That starts by knowing who we are and hearing each of our truths. JOIN US!!

Many doulas work with vulnerable populations or in health care settings. We expect anyone working in a high exposure environment and those who desire additional protection to wear a mask. We have a large meeting room.
